CBO will release The 2017 Long-Term Budget Outlook at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30. The long-term projections—which typically span 30 years—are consistent with CBO’s current 10-year budget and economic projections released in January.

To make the projections available sooner, this year’s edition is shorter than in the past. The report will include the same detailed long-term projections and supplemental data but will not include the more extensive background discussion that has usually been published in a longer version. CBO last released detailed long-term budget projections in July 2016 and issued a partial update in January 2017.

Separately, CBO typically updates its 10-year budget projections in the spring in conjunction with its analysis of the President’s budget; the specific timetable for that 2017 update has not yet been determined.

Deborah Kilroe is CBO’s Associate Director for Communications.  Leigh Angres is CBO’s Associate Director for Legislative Affairs.
